Travel, eat, and drink your way toward understanding the layers of history on the strikingly beautiful island of Sicily. Together we will experience regional foods, wines, and other delicious offerings from the fertile land and abundant sea. This itinerary will take you to places with a simple goal: to address all of your senses and to experience the island as a curious traveler, not a tourist!

Food and Wine in Sicily

Join Karen La Rosa and Vincent Titone, leader of the NY Sicilian Food, Wine and Travel Meet-Up group on the Nine Day Food and Wine Tour of Sicily. This tour, limited to 20 people, begins at Sicily's new airport, Comiso, and remain for 5 days in the the South Eastern region of Sicily, before heading North, to Catania and North.

On this trip you will have the opportunity to explore one of Sicily's best regions for for food and wine. We will taste wonderful wines, exceptional olive oil, traditional chocolate and historic cheeses. We will see major sites and off the beaten path treasures. Aided at times by local guides, we will learn about Sicily's complex history and the traditions that have evolved over a long, long period of time. In nine days we will experience a lot, but leave you with enough time to relax and enjoy time on your own.

Vincent Titone's heritage is 100% Sicilian. He has traveled to Italy 30 times (17 Regions so far), and has been to Sicily three times. “The older I get, the more interest I have in things Sicilian. What a privilage it is to share this wonderful culture,” exclaims Mr. Titone.

Accommodation and Tranportation

The tour will spend 5 nights in a 4 star hotel in Ispica and 4 nights in a 3 or 4 star hotel in Catania. We will be traveling by van or bus for the duration of the trip.



We will arrive in Sicily’s new airport, Comiso, and drive to our lovely 4 Star hotel in Ispica. New flights are beginning this month from Milan on Alitalia.
(If you have other travel plans, we can meet at the hotel.) Relax and leisure time. Dinner with wine will be at the hotel, Villa Principe di Belmonte.


After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, we will make our way to Noto where we can see beautiful Baroque architecture. We will visit one of the most famous pastry shops in Sicily to sample a sweet or two and meander around for the remainder of the morning.

We will then depart for Marzamemi, the old Arab port on the southeast coast. This stunning historic tonnara (old Sicilian fishing village) in its spectacular setting by the sea has been turned into a compound with restaurants and shops. Here you will have lunch on your own. We will visit a company store that is known for its delicious packaged fish and tomato products prior to departing for a local wine tasting at a small cantina very nearby.

Dinner will be at an old restored market near the hotel.


This morning we will drive to Ragusa Ibla. A Baroque gem, this town is filled with hills and vistas.  We will meet our guide and learn about the historic town and its beauty. We will then visit an historic palazzo and enjoy a wine tasting that includes regional cheese and specialties that will make for a light lunch.

We then proceed to Modica, the city of 100 churches. Situated in the Val di Noto, in its entirety a UNESCO world heritage site, it is a hilly, panoramic and Baroque. It is renowned for its slow fire chocolate. We will enjoy the town with our guide and then go to the chocolate laboratory to sample the chocolate.

Dinner will be at the hotel or an agriturismo.


After breakfast we will drive to Scicli, a stunning town of architectural gems. You will have time on your own to stroll and explore.

For lunch we will visit a wonderful herb farm where we will learn about how herbs are used in local cooking, enjoy nature and eat.

We will return to the hotel for relaxing and leisure time. Dinner will be on your own at the hotel or in Ispica.


Siracusa and Ortigia
Together with our guide, we will visit the archeological park and its Greek Theater, perhaps one of the most beautiful. This theater is the largest in the world and is equipped with excellent acoustics. We will also see the very famous stone quarry or Latomie, known as the Ear of Dionysus, which served as a prison in Greek times.

After a visit to the archeological park, we will go to one of Sicily’s true gems, the small island of Ortigia, a magical place with a warren of streets that wind around Baroque beauty. Arab street planning. We will see the large and impressive Piazza Duomo, learn about its complex history, (an example of the ultimate recycling) and the legendary Fountain of Arethusa.  The rest of the day will be free for you to walk around and enjoy on your own.

We will enjoy a simple group dinner.


This morning we will leave Ispica and head towards Catania. En route we will visit a famous olive oil producer and enjoy a tour and tasting. We will proceed to a winery where we will have a tour of the beautifully renovated structure followed by lunch with wine and delicious food prepared by the well-regarded chef.

In Catania we will check into our hotel, and get settled. Dinner will be on your own.


Today we will walk to the main area of Catania’s historic center to visit the fish market and the Duomo. Catania, Sicily’s second largest city constructed mostly from lava stone, lives with beautiful Mount  Etna at its back. It is a working town with some beautiful architecture and some interesting sites to see.

You will have the rest of the day to walk, shop and explore on your own. You will be armed with suggestions and maps.

We will meet for dinner at a wonderful trattoria.


We will leave town this morning and drive to Taormina. We will visit the Greek Theater and you will have the day to yourself in this stunning town. We will return to the hotel and dinner will be on your own


Today we will head to a famous Etna winery for a comprehensive tour and tasting with food.

Our departure dinner will be at a favorite restaurant.


We will depart for NYC from Catania’s airport, Fontanarossa.

The Fine Print

  1. Passports
    Passports: Travellers must have valid passports that will not expire within the 6 months following the tour.
  2. Luggage
    All luggage must be identified with tags and a personal identifier such as a ribbon or other unique marking.
  3. Cancellations
    Due to tour cancellation charges imposed by the vendors, the following charges apply to tour participants:
    • Over 60 days: $200 Administration cost
    • 59-40 days: 25% of the total tour cost
    • 39 to 10 days: 50% of the total tour cost
    • 10 days or less: 100% of the tour cost
    No refund is permitted once the tour has begun. Travel insurance is recommended to take care of any unforeseen circumstances.
  4. Forced Cancellation
    In the event that the tour does not reach a minimum number of 20 participants, it may be necessary to cancel the tour or surcharge.
  5. Currency Conversion
    Pricing for the tour is based on the exchange rate and booking rates, and may change. If the exchange rate rises more than 10%, a surcharge may apply. If booking rates change dramatically, alternate hotel choices may be made. Once final payment has been made, no surcharge or changes will be made
  6. Ammendments
    This program may be varied slightly to accommodate local festivals, performances and other seasonal events as information becomes available, and include additional or different activities deemed worthwhile and exciting at the discretion of the tour leader. Unexpected factors, such as inclement weather or sudden church closings, may also result in changes. While changes may occur, the range and number of activities will remain the same.
